• Welcome to Flugeelab

Flugeelab is a research group dedicated to understanding how rivers evolve under
natural forces and human pressures. We combine field measurements, remote sensing,
and machine learning to explore fluvial geomorphology, river sensing, and extreme
hydrological events, with a special emphasis on tropical and large-scale rivers.

  • Advancing River Science for a Changing World

We investigate how rivers respond to floods, droughts, land use change, and climate pressures. By integrating field research, remote sensing, and advanced modelling techniques, we develop solutions that enhance river resilience and protect communities and ecosystems.

Our Mission at Flugeelab

Our mission is to advance scientific understanding of river systems by investigating how natural processes, human activities, and extreme hydrological events shape river form and function.

We pursue this mission through an integrated approach that combines field observations, geospatial technologies, Earth observations, and computational modeling.

We are committed to generating innovative knowledge that supports sustainable river
basin management, protects vital ecosystem services, and empowers communities and
stakeholders through research, education, and collaboration.

Our Vision

Our vision is a future in which river systems are resilient, well-managed, and safeguarded against the challenges of climate change and human pressures.

We aspire to be a global leader in fluvial geomorphology and extreme events research, driving impactful discoveries and fostering the development of scientists and professionals who contribute to the sustainability of waterways worldwide.

Join Us

We are always looking for motivated students and researchers who are passionate about rivers, climate change, and environmental sustainability. At Flugeelab, you will gain hands-on experience, contribute to impactful research, and work with a collaborative team shaping the future of river science.
